2014 BOARD MEMBERS ELECTED

Incumbent: John Wells (Freeman) Member by License

John first came to a cottage at Roth Park back in 1956. His parents and in-laws both moved to Lake Freeman, Lower Hambridge area in 1975. John bought his home on Lake Freeman in 2004. John has been a police officer with the Lafayette City Police Dept. for 27 years. In 2002, he was named Officer of the Year, and in 2003, he received the Lafayette City Police Medal of Honor. John is a Blue and Gold Admission Liaison officer for the United States Naval Academy. John has stated, “I have watched the Lakes change over the years and am excited to see how clean they are becoming. After many years of using the Lakes, I feel it’s time for me to give back a little of my time to them.” 

Incumbent: John C (Jack) Werner (Freeman) Member by Association License (Upper Sunset Park)

Lake Freeman Jack lives in Indianapolis, and he and his family have been coming to the Lakes since the 1930’s. His family purchased property in Upper Sunset Park in 1980. Jack has served on the Upper Sunset Park Association Board since the early 1990’s, and was President of the association from 2007-2013. Jack has a BS in Business Administration from Butler University. He currently owns and operates JCW Financial Services since 1985, specializing in Medical Insurance for small employers, the self-employed, and seniors. Jack does or has served on the Washington Township Board, Washington Township Fire Protection Contribution Fund, Housing Board of Indiana Gamma Phi Delta Theta at Butler University, Rolling Ridge Neighborhood Association Board. Jack states, “I believe that my business and budgeting experience, along with my passion for the Twin Lakes, make me uniquely qualified to serve on the SFLECC Board.


John Engler (Freeman) Member by License

John has been a Lake Freeman homeowner since 1981. He is a retired director of Human Resources for George Weston Bakeries, Northlake, IL formerly Bestfoods, Kraft and General Foods. John was a Personnel Director for General Foods in Lafayette, IN. John has thirty-seven years of management experience in Human Resources, Manufacturing and Engineering. John has a Mechanical Engineering degree from the University of Wisconsin, and a Business Management degree from Governors State University. John is a member of Monticello Rotary and the White County Economic Action Team. He previously served on the SFLECC board for 6 years and acted as treasurer for three of those years. John states, “I believe the lakes are our single most valuable resource and would like the opportunity to again serve on the board to enhance the quality of the lakes.” 


Janet J Faker (Shafer) Member by License 

Janet is a 35-year resident of Lake Shafer and will be retiring from her position as Director of Constituent Services and Health Liaison under Senator Dan Coats at the end of this year. Doing so will allow her to devote more time to local issues. Janet has a BS from Purdue University and has many leadership certificates including: Lugar Series for Excellence in Public Service, Hoosier Congressional Policy Leadership Series - Indiana Family Institute, and White County Leadership Series. Janet does or has served on the IU Health White Board of Trustees for 23 years, the White County United Way Board, and is an active member of Faith Church in Lafayette, IN. Jan’s mission is to continue her passion of serving her community by utilizing her decades of experience in federal government and congressional offices and healthcare, faith-based and non-profit organizations. 

Lee M Kreul (Freeman) Member by License

Lee previously served as an SFLECC Director from 2007-2013. He served on the Shorefront, Finance, Publications, and Environmental committees. He was President of the SFLECC Board from 2012-2013. He has an MBA from Michigan State University and a BA from Wayne State University. In 2005, Lee retired as Professor Emeritus from the School of Hospitality and Tourism Management (HTM), where he served as Head of the School of HTM at Purdue from 1987-1998, and taught financial management and accounting. He is the author of five books, three book chapters, seventeen professional articles, and twenty-seven research publications on hospitality and tourism management. His research has been quoted or featured in popular media such as the Wall Street Journal, National Public Radio (NPR), and the Chicago Tribune. His past work experience also includes management positions in the hotel/resort industry, and the securities industry. From 1961-1965, he served as a Supply Officer in the US Navy. Lee is presently serving as Past President of the Rotary Club of Monticello, where he has been a member since 2010. His community service experience also includes serving as West Lafayette Community Development Committee Chairman, and Redevelopment Commissioner. Lee and his wife, Carol, have been residents of the Monticello area and Lake Freeman since 1986.
